IELTS Speaking chủ đề Music Part 1
Question 1: Do you enjoy listening to music? Why or why not?
Of course, I’m a music enthusiast, and listening to music is apparently my favorite free time activity. Sometimes, I listen to music just to relax and collect my mind after stressful working and studying hours. There are also times when I listen to music when I have to come up with creative ideas for my projects.
Question 2: How do you discover new songs/music?
Well, I often diversify my playlists by listening to new tracks from YouTube or Spotify’s song recommendations. These streaming platforms can suggest new songs that suit my music tastes based on my music search history and listening frequencies. I also ask for new song recommendations from my best friend – whom I consider a living music encyclopedia.
Question 3: Can music preferences describe a person’s characteristics?
I believe there’s a connection between an individual’s choice of music and their personality traits. For instance, classical music enjoyers are often calm and sophisticated while rock or heavy metal fans are quite intuitive and creative.
IELTS Speaking chủ đề Music Part 2
Question 1: Describe a time you learned to play a musical instrument.
Câu trả lời gợi ý:
There are various instruments that I want to learn. However, if I had to choose one, I would definitely pick the violin. People often say that the violin is one of the most challenging instruments to master.
Since I was a kid, I have always been fascinated with the image of violists enthusiastically playing their instruments. I remember that the first video that blew up my passion for this instrument was a cover of a Japanese song called “Senbonzakura” by Lindsey Stirling. She played the violin so effortlessly and beautifully that I felt completely in love with that song just 10 seconds in. Her passion for the violin and playful playing style inspired me a lot. Therefore, I decided to sign up for a violin course in the summer.
To be honest, learning how to play the violin was truly challenging for me because the violin is relatively small compared to other instruments. Also, playing the violin requires you to stand up straight with good posture for a long time and have good wrist strength. Another difficulty is that figuring out the positions of the musical notes on a violin is much harder than on other instruments like the piano, kalimba, guitar, or ukulele. As a result, I saw many students in the same class as me give up just after one or two weeks.
However, I was determined enough to continue without giving up. At the end of the course, I was able to learn how to play some simple songs on the violin, but it was harder to play them decently or play other complicated songs. It was a pity that I didn’t have the time to continue learning this instrument. This was an unforgettable memory for me, as this was one of the few times I was strong-willed enough to learn something completely new. Maybe in the future, I might restart learning the violin when I finish my studies and have more free time.
Question 2: Describe a song that has a special meaning to you.
Câu trả lời gợi ý:
I don’t have a specific favorite song, as I like many songs of various genres. But if I ever had to talk about the song that I like the most and has a meaningful message to me, it would certainly be “Scars to Your Beautiful.”.
The song is the third single in the debut album “Know-It-All” (2015) by Alessia Cara, a Canadian singer and songwriter. It won the “Best Fight Against the System” category in the MTV Video Music Awards 2017. Actually, I came to know this song when I heard one of my friends singing it for fun. I was interested in the song and its catchy chorus, which went viral and appeared all over my newsfeed back then.
The song tells a story about a girl struggling and feeling stressed with her looks. Thus, she is insecure and often seeks others’ attention. However, in the end, she realizes she doesn’t have to change something already gorgeous and perfect. There are many reasons why I adore this song so much. The first reason is its catchy and upbeat melody, which makes you want to dance to it.
Besides that, the empowering message conveyed is a factor that makes my love for it grow deeper. The song promotes the idea of embracing yourself and self-acceptance of our appearance. No matter the look, size, or skin color, we are all beautiful, and we should not be affected by the standardized beauty that society has created and shaped us into. I am truly impressed with these powerful words. They comforted me during my secondary school year, the time when I felt unconfident about myself.
Even though there are many songs with meaningful messages nowadays, this song and its message will always be top-notch, in my opinion.
IELTS Speaking chủ đề Music Part 3
Question 1: In your opinion, what makes a song or piece of music timeless?
In my opinion, the message of a song is the element that makes it timeless. A song with meaningful messages that surpass social boundaries and limitations will be able to last forever. In addition, as you can see, timeless pieces of music are often unique and evoke powerful emotions from listeners. The song needs to form a bond with the listeners to always appear and live in their hearts, their special moments in daily life.
Question 2: What role do lyrics play in music? Are they more important than the melody?
Lyrics play a crucial role in music pieces, as they are what listeners directly reflect on. They create an emotional connection with the listeners and evoke various feelings or memories at an individual level. However, lyrics and melody are equally important in a song, as they intertwine to constitute a great song. A song without either of these factors wouldn’t be able to influence music lovers profoundly and thoroughly.
Question 3: How has technology changed the way people consume music?
Technology advancement has surely transformed the way we consume music. People used to listen to songs through CDs/DVDs bought from music shops, and their choices were limited. Nowadays, streaming platforms have revolutionized this consumption task by providing us with various quality choices and better listening experiences. Moreover, it has lowered the cost, made it more affordable to consume music, and created more chances for low-key artists to be discovered and become mainstream.
