One of my most cherished childhood friends is Mai. We met back in primary school and quickly became inseparable. She had this gentle and nurturing personality, always putting others before herself, which made her truly special to me.

One of my fondest memories with Mai was in fifth grade when we had a big school project that required us to build a model of a historical site. I’ve never been great at arts and crafts, but Liên was incredibly patient and meticulous. She guided me through every step and even stayed late at my house to help me finish it, despite having her own work to do. Thanks to her dedication, we got a high score, and that experience taught me a valuable lesson about perseverance and teamwork.

Beyond that, Liên was someone I could always count on. Whenever I felt down, she would be there to listen without judgment, offering thoughtful advice that always made me feel better. No matter how stressful things got, she never raised her voice or lost her temper. Her kind-hearted nature and ability to stay calm in any situation were qualities I deeply admired.

Unfortunately, after primary school, her family relocated to another province, and over time, we gradually lost touch. However, whenever I think about childhood friendships, she is the first person that comes to mind. If I ever get the chance to meet her again, I’d love to catch up on old times and see how life has been treating her.

Vocabulary:

  • Close-knit group: Nhóm bạn thân.
  • Cherish deeply: Trân trọng sâu sắc.

Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3 – Friends

Question 1: Do you think it is possible to be friends with someone you have nothing in common with?

Yes, I believe it’s possible, but it’s not always easy. Shared interests often serve as an icebreaker in friendships, but they aren’t the only factor that determines a strong bond. Sometimes, people become friends because they share the same values, offer emotional support, or simply enjoy each other’s company. For instance, I have a close friend who has completely different tastes in music and movies from me, but we connect on a deeper level because we respect each other’s opinions and are always there for one another. That said, if two people have absolutely nothing in common, their conversations may become forced, and the friendship might not last long.

Question 2: How do friendships change as people grow older?

I think friendships change a lot as we grow older. When we’re young, we have plenty of time to hang out with friends almost every day. But as we get older, life gets busier—work, family, and responsibilities take over, so we don’t see our friends as often. But on the bright side, friendships tend to become deeper and more meaningful because we start valuing quality over quantity. I think as adults, most people stick with a few close friends rather than a big social circle.

Question 3: How has the way people make friends changed compared to the past?

I personally think that the way people form friendships has changed significantly. In the past, most friendships were built through face-to-face interactions at school, work, or in the neighborhood. Nowadays, thanks to social media and technology, people can connect instantly with others, even from different countries. However, in my view, some online friendships can feel superficial, as people often present a curated version of themselves. So, while it’s easier to meet new friends, developing deep, meaningful relationships still requires effort.

Question 4: Do you think social media has had a positive or negative impact on friendships?

To be honest, it’s a double-edged sword. On one hand, social media helps people stay in touch, especially those who live far apart. It’s also a great way to meet like-minded people. But on the other hand, some online friendships can feel a bit superficial, since people only chat online but rarely meet in real life. Plus, misunderstandings happen more easily through text. So I think social media is great for keeping in touch, but face-to-face interactions are still the best way to maintain strong friendships.
